Import and export contacts
Bring a spreadsheet of customers in, and take any filtered list out as CSV.
Contacts is your address book: everyone who has written to you, plus anyone you add or import. Filter it, save a filter as a segment, and export exactly what you see.
Import a CSV file
- 1 Open Contacts and press Import.
- 2 Upload a CSV file whose first row holds the column headers, and choose what the import should do: add new contacts only, update existing ones only, or both.
- 3 Pick the column that identifies an existing contact — a phone number or an email address.
- 4 Map each column to the field it fills, including your custom fields. Untick a column to leave it out. You can also add labels to every contact in the file.
- 5 Review the counts — added, updated, skipped — then press Import. Large files run in the background and finish shortly.
- Every row needs a phone number or an email address.
- Phone numbers must include the country code.
- Several labels go in one cell, separated by commas. New label names are created for you.
- A lifecycle stage must match a stage you already have.
If some rows are skipped, download the error file, fix those rows, and upload it again.
Export
Filter the list, then press Export. You get a CSV of the contacts that match — with their lifecycle stage, labels, channels and every custom field.
Import and export both need the «Import and export contacts» permission, so you decide who can take customer data out.
